document.getElementById("content").innerHTML = "
Adolescent Extended Day Treatment Program

Access Family Services Extended Day Treatment program, \"Access Academy\" provides an array of behavioral and therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents in a highly structured treatment setting. Access Academy is nationally accredited by CARF (The Council on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and is a licensed non-public school with the North Carolina Division of Non Public Education.

Access Academy serves children who have special education and treatment needs and have had difficulty functioning in a mainstream school setting. Access Academy is open year round from Monday through Friday 8:00-4:30 pm.

Access Academy employs licensed therapists, qualified and associate professionals and teachers who provide structured positive behavioral supports and mental health treatment using evidenced based and best practice treatment models including:

Positive Action Curriculum: Positive Action works for all types of people, PA works for numerous problem behaviors, including: violence, alcohol, behavioral problems, tobacco, drug use, disciplinary referrals, suspensions, and school absenteeism, and PA improves academic achievement.

The Positive Action approach incorporates evidence based strategies such as increasing perception of personal risk, life skills training, promoting pro-social norms and connecting to community prevention efforts. The Positive Action approach teaches physical, intellectual, social, and emotional positive actions. The program has been effective in increasing protective factors such as social skills, positive personal characteristics, knowledge regarding risks associated with substance use, information on positive health behaviors, promoting negative attitude toward drug-related topics, positive relationships with adults, positive bonding to social institutions, and commitment to pro-social values.

The Positive Action program has been recognized by National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP) and SAMHSA/CSAP as a model program for drug, alcohol, and tobacco use prevention. (December 2000).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy or (CBT) is a general term for a classification of therapies. There are several approaches to cognitive-behavioral therapy, including Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Rational Behavior Therapy, Rational Living Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, and Dialectic Behavior Therapy.

CBT is based on the Cognitive Model of Emotional Response. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like events, situations or people. CBT's overarching theme is that we can change the way we think to feel and act better even if the situation does not change. Children and adolescents receiving Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as part of their treatment at Access Academy Day Treatment Program can expect their therapist to be active, problem-focused, and goal-directed.

Positive Life Changes (Group): Positive Life Changes is a cognitive behavioral intervention for adolescents and young adults. It is designed to teach social and emotional skills. Positive Life Changes curriculum represents key social and emotional skills that increase the chance of healthy adjustment and decrease the chance of problem behaviors such as violence, substance use, and high-risk sexual behavior. The three workbooks in the Positive Life Changes series weave together lessons addressing five core competencies for adolescents and young adults, as follows:

Positive Sense of Self: Self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-efficacy (a belief in one's ability to influence outcomes)

Self-Control: Emotional and behavioral regulation needed to resist temptation and control reactive behavior

Moral System of Belief: Concern for fairness, justice, integrity, responsibility, and the welfare of others (including empathy)

Pro-social Connectedness: A psychological state of belonging in which youth perceive they are cared for, acknowledged, and trusted within a given context

Decision-Making Skills: The ability to identify problems and relevant information, set goals, generate solutions, and evaluate consequences in problematic social situations (also called social problem solving skills)

Seeking Safety: Seeking Safety is a present-focused therapy to help people attain safety from trauma/PTSD and substance abuse. Treatment in the Seeking Safety program is designed for flexible use. Access Academy uses the Seeking Safety Program in group and individual formats; using all topics or fewer topics. Seeking Safety was begun in 1992, under grant funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. It was developed by Lisa M. Najavits, PhD at Harvard Medical School/McLean Hospital.

The Access Academy Seeking Safety program consists of 25 topics:

Introduction/Case Management, Safety, PTSD: Taking Back Your Power, When Substances Control You, Honesty, Asking for Help, Setting Boundaries in Relationships, Getting Others to Support Your Recovery, Healthy Relationships, Community Resources, Compassion, Creating Meaning, Discovery, Integrating the Split Self, Recovery Thinking, Taking Good Care of Yourself, Commitment, Respecting Your Time, Coping with Triggers, Self-Nurturing, Red and Green Flags, Detaching from Emotional Pain (Grounding). Life Choices, and Termination.

Additional best practices in use at Access Academy:

Comprehensive anger management program and groups

Structured Life-Skills Training

Life-space interviewing

Art Therapy

";
